ABOUT AVISTO
A glimpse into the hearts and minds of our aging loved ones.
Our goal for Avisto is to provide art engagement and guidance for seniors using a variety of mediums. This program identifies a creative outlet for participants to express themselves through art. Sessions are led by local volunteer artists that want to a make a difference and touch the lives of seniors.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
AVISTO STUDIO
Impacting the lives of those with Dementia.
Our flagship program is through a partnership with the H'Art Gallery and their on-staff Art Therapist, Brooke Montague. We have developed a program for those impacted by some form of Dementia.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

Mandala
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1 1:00 - 3:00
Participants will create a 12 x 12 mixed media (watercolor & acrylic) mandala. The universal symbol for the self. The use of guided imagery “Light of the World” and word affirmations will reinforce the art experience.
Eye of the "I"
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 8 1:00 - 3:00
Participants will create an 8 x 10 mixed media painting of an eye on canvas using acrylic paint mixed with texture items. The art experience will be enhanced by a projective technique using “I” statements.
Animal Sculpting
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15 1:00 - 3:00
Participants will sculpt an animal out of air hardening clay, that will be painted with acrylic. Animal cards will be read to inspire the animal images.
Create Your Habitat
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 22 1:00 - 3:00
Participants will create a “sculpted home” using a variety of found objects. Participants may bring their own “special” items but a variety of materials & found objects will also be provided.
Music will be used to inspire imagery.
Out of the Darkness
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 29 1:00 - 3:00
Participants will create a scratchboard using crayon and black acrylic paint. They will use a variety of scratching materials to create a high contrast image. The use of guided imagery “Waterfall of Light” will be used to concretize the art experience.
Treasures from Within
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5 1:00 - 3:00
Participants will be led in a guided imagery “Pearls of Wisdom” A simple piece of jewelry will be created using leather thong and pearl beads.
Art Show: Friends and Family Celebration
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19 1:00 - 3:00
A showcase of artwork created during the 6 week session. Artists, Families, Friends & the public will be invited to attend, light refreshments will be served.
